Six Senses will bring its regenerative luxury ethos to one of Japan’s oldest ski regions with Six Senses Myoko, slated to rise at the base of Mount Myoko within the Suginohara ski resort. The project, from Singapore’s Patience Capital Group with design by Kengo Kuma & Associates and Kume Sekkei, introduces a refined, nature-driven take on alpine hospitality in Japan.

The 57-key resort and 21 branded residences are part of a larger plan to reanimate Myoko Kogen, long celebrated for its deep powder, natural hot springs, and quiet sense of place. Six Senses COO Neil Palmer called the partnership “a chance to revitalize this historic destination,” noting its balance of outdoor adventure, heritage, and extraordinary scenery. That approach aligns with the brand’s broader move into cold-weather destinations, following recent openings in Crans-Montana and the Austrian Alps.

Beyond skiing, the development is designed as a year-round retreat. The master plan envisions a small mountain village anchored by restaurants, shops, and cultural spaces that highlight local makers and encourage longer stays. Seasonal menus will guide the hotel’s two restaurants, while a boutique will offer custom gear fittings.

Many guestrooms will feature private onsens, and the clustered spa will include hydrotherapy circuits and reservable baths. As at other Six Senses properties, wellness will focus on recovery and longevity, led by resident and visiting practitioners.

For Patience Capital Group, the project represents both destination stewardship and long-term investment. “We are deeply committed to developing Myoko Kogen into a world-class mountain retreat that celebrates the region’s rich natural attributes and cultural heritage,” said founder Ken Chan. Construction is expected to begin in April 2026, with access via a three-hour drive or a two-hour train ride from Tokyo.

For IHG Hotels & Resorts, which acquired Six Senses in 2019, Myoko adds another dimension to a portfolio now spanning 27 open properties and 38 in the pipeline.
