Citing global supply chain challenges and uncertainty in near-term travel, Seabourn has pushed back the debut of its first-ever expedition ship from April to July.

“The ship’s construction continues to make good progress, but we have encountered some additional global supply chain challenges,” a spokesperson for the line said. “The extra time will help ensure we enter service with the ship we envisioned at the outset of this exciting process.”

“Second, we understand many travelers prefer to commit to travel this summer rather than in the near-term. By shifting the date of the first voyage to July, we are trying to create a greater degree of comfort for our guests to join us on Seabourn Venture later this year at a time where they will be more willing to travel.”

Guests booked on the April 10 sailing are automatically being transferred to the July 15 inaugural sailing. Those booked on the affected Svalbard season are being automatically transferred to a comparable Seabourn Venture cruise in 2023.

This is not the first time the ship’s launch has been pushed back. The 264-passenger ship, which is being built at Italy’s T. Mariotti shipyard, was originally scheduled to debut in June 2021.

A first for the luxury line, Seabourn Venture will feature two custom-built submarines, along with 24 Zodiac boats, a fleet of double sea kayaks, as well as mountain bikes and e-bikes. The ship will also feature the line’s first-ever duplex suites

A sister ship, Seabourn Pursuit, is scheduled for delivery in February 2023.
