Viking’s next new Nile River ship, the Viking Thoth, floated out this week at the Massara shipyard in Cairo.

The float out marks a major construction milestone and the first time the ship has touched water. The float out also signifies the vessel’s transition into its final construction phase.

Set to debut in October of this year, Viking Thoth will be the cruise line’s eighth Nile River vessel. It will sail the 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

“Egypt is a country of profound historical and cultural significance, which makes it a destination of great interest to our guests,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman and CEO of Viking. “With two new ships, the Viking Thoth and the Viking Amun, debuting in 2025, we are very proud to continue expanding our elegant fleet and introducing more curious travelers to this phenomenal region.”

Viking Thoth can hold 82 guests in 41 staterooms; it is identical to Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor, and Viking Amun. In addition to Viking Thoth, the cruise line has four more ships scheduled to launch in Egypt over the net two years, bringing its total Nile River fleet to 12 by 2027.
