Travel is about to get a little easier for some flyers traveling from London into the U.S. on American Airlines.
American Airlines travelers flying from London Heathrow (LHR) to the U.S. with a connection through Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) can now clear customs at the arrival gate. This change will make it easier for travelers to go directly to their connecting flight without having to reclaim and recheck their baggage or go through airport security.
American is calling the program, which it trialed earlier this year at Heathrow, One Stop Security, or OSS.
While the initial rollout is only for passengers traveling from Heathrow to the U.S. via Dallas, American states there are plans to “explore opportunities” to expand the program to additional flights at other U.S. airports in the future. There could also be opportunities beyond London Heathrow, but because the program was built in partnership with three different government organizations — the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the U.K. Department for Transport (DfT) — expanding beyond London is a bigger project than expanding within the U.S.
Here’s what American’s COO David Seymour said about the program:
“One Stop Security is one of the most forward-thinking enhancements we can bring to international travel — and importantly, to our customers — as it delivers a level of convenience and time-savings that’s never been available before to customers connecting from international flights.”
