U.S. Issues Updated Travel Warning for Dominican Republic
The advisory warns Americans traveling to the Dominican Republic to be vigilant due to crime in the country.

The U.S. State Department has reissued its travel advisory for the Dominican Republic.
The advisory, still at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution, warns Americans traveling to the Dominican Republic to be vigilant due to crime in the country.
“Violent crime is a concern in the Dominican Republic despite increased police presence in areas often visited by tourists. Do not display wealth and be wary of meeting individuals from online in secluded locations,” the advisory reads.
While the update urges caution, it is not a warning against travel. The Dominican Republic remains in the same advisory category as countries like France, Italy, Belgium, and Germany.
The State Department advises travelers to stay alert in crowded areas, monitor local news, and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)—a free service that lets U.S. citizens register their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
