A year after opening its $2 million, 40,000 square-foot Coral KidZ Club, the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun will add its Mayan-themed outdoor sand and water-filled play zone in December. The new outdoor area, connected to the indoor Coral Kidz Club, takes children on an expedition through the jungles of the Yucatan where they can search and dig for fossils. The new 5,166 square-foot outdoor zone is home to a towering Mayan Temple which encourages children to climb up the ruins and through the caves to find winding slides that lead to pools of water and soft ground. According to Mauricio Aceves, director of sales and marketing, the indoor and outdoor areas were designed with four criteria in mind: they had to embody the Mexican spirt; they needed to be educational; there had to be an opportunity for parents to participate; and it had to be universally accessible so that children speaking any language or from any culture could feel comfortable. The 602-suite resort has earned a AAA Five Diamond designation for 15 years.
