Rwanda brings together extraordinary wildlife encounters, exceptional hospitality and a deep commitment to conservation. From mountain gorilla trekking to Big Five Safaris, the destination offers experiences that leave a lasting impression while contributing to the protection of its natural heritage and the well-being of local communities.

To help travel advisors bring Rwanda to life, Visit Rwanda has introduced the Rwanda Specialist Program, an immersive, self-paced training platform designed to deepen destination expertise and inspire more informed, thoughtfully crafted and compelling itineraries.

Through a series of modular courses, the program explores Rwanda’s diverse tourism offerings, from the iconic gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park to Big Five safaris in Akagera National Park. Understanding Rwanda means looking beyond its experiences themselves and exploring the conservation efforts and community partnerships that help sustain them. For advisors serving discerning travelers, the additional context is essential to creating journeys that feel both exclusive and purposeful.

Extraordinary Experiences Support Conservation

Few experiences capture Rwanda’s approach more clearly than mountain gorilla trekking. In the forests of Volcanoes National Park, travelers can spend precious moments observing endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The encounter is intimate and unforgettable, but its significance reaches beyond the forest. Revenue from gorilla tourism generates funding for conservation and supports communities surrounding the park, creating a connection between the visitor experience and the long-term protection of these remarkable animals and their environment.

A Safari Story Beyond Gorillas

Rwanda’s conservation efforts extend well beyond its mountain forests. In Akagera National Park, a partnership between the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks, established in 2010, has helped transform the park through wildlife restoration. The return of lions and eastern black rhinos has contributed to Akagera’s emergence as a compelling Big Five safari destination.

Tourism plays an important role in supporting the park’s ongoing management and conservation, while creating opportunities for surrounding communities. Akagera offers a different side of Rwanda, with expansive savannahs, diverse wildlife and a classic African safari grounded in a wider story of restoration.

Turning Destination Knowledge Into Meaningful Journeys

The Rwanda Specialist Program equips advisors with the knowledge and practical tools to translate these experiences into compelling itineraries. Its modules cover key regions, wildlife, cultural heritage and outdoor activities, alongside essential logistics, including when to visit, how to travel between destinations and how to book.

Participants also gain access to local destination management companies and tourism partners, downloadable sales resources, image libraries and videos, as well as invitations to exclusive Visit Rwanda trade events and familiarization trips. Upon completion, advisors earn an official Rwanda Specialist digital badge.

Through the Rwanda Specialist Program, Visit Rwanda is helping travel advisors tell the full story, inspiring travelers to discover the Land of a Thousand Hills, while appreciating the importance of protecting it for generations to come.
