Plans are in place to connect Long Island’s MacArthur Airport (ISP) to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul investing $150 million to make it happen.

The project would add a pedestrian walkway linking the airport and the Ronkonkoma LIRR station, restructure roads, and upgrade other infrastructure. This investment adds to the $40 million set aside for the proposed new North Terminal at MacArthur.

“By improving transit access, redesigning road networks, and enhancing critical infrastructure, we are unlocking new opportunities for businesses, tourism, and economic development,” Hochul said. “This $150 million investment will also create good-paying union jobs while transforming how Long Islanders connect to one another, to New York and to the rest of the world.”

New York State added in a news release announcing the regional airport project that it will “increase connectivity … unlocking the potential of 48 acres of land surrounding the station” and “further development and tourism growth.”

MacArthur Airport has seen several new flights added to its docket recently, including to Boston, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale.
