VidantaWorld Voyages has entered the cruise market with the launch of Elegant, a 216-guest ultra-luxury yacht now sailing its inaugural Mediterranean season. The ship departed Funchal, Madeira, on April 11 and will operate a series of seven-night itineraries through Oct. 2 before returning for a May–September 2027 season.
The concept is straightforward: take a vessel originally designed to carry more than 600 passengers and significantly reduce its capacity to prioritize space. At 216 guests, Elegant is at the smaller end of the luxury segment, yet its footprint suggests a much larger ship. The result is a layout with wider public areas, fewer bottlenecks, and a more residential feel across accommodations and shared spaces.
That repositioning puts it somewhere between traditional small-ship luxury and the newer class of “yacht-style” cruising, but with a scale advantage. Suites are designed with more generous proportions than typical expedition or boutique cruise products, and top-tier categories include multiple bathrooms and dedicated butler service. Roughly one-third of accommodations include butlers trained at the British Butler Institute.

Crew levels are also a key part of the positioning. The ship operates at a near-1:1 crew-to-guest ratio, allowing for a more flexible, less structured onboard experience. There is no traditional main dining room; instead, guests move between multiple restaurants and lounges, with three primary dinner venues and a range of casual options. This removes fixed seating times and spreads demand across the ship.
Itineraries follow a similar logic. Rather than covering long distances, the program focuses on specific regions—the French Riviera, the Greek Islands, the Adriatic, and the Italian coast, among them—with longer port times, overnight stays, and late departures built in. Tenders are available on demand, allowing guests to move ashore without rigid scheduling. The goal is to extend time in port and shift activity into the evening, when most cruise passengers are typically back onboard.

As for onboard programming, there is one main pool, four hot tubs, a marina deck with direct sea access, and a full-service spa and fitness center. Entertainment is smaller in scale, centered around live music, lounge performances, and a 168-seat theater, rather than large productions.
The broader strategy is a land-to-sea translation of Vidanta’s resort model in Mexico, where large footprints are used to create a sense of openness rather than density. Here, that shows up in deck space, circulation, and the absence of crowding more than in headline amenities.
Elegant’s first season runs through early October, with 2027 sailings already open.
