Sunny Alternative? Canadian Arrivals to Los Cabos Surge 12%

The dramatic beauty of Los Cabos.

According to the latest data from the Los Cabos Tourism Observatory, Canadian arrivals jumped 12.2% in the first two months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, making Canada the fastest-growing international market for the destination.

Now accounting for 12.4% of all visitors, Canada has solidified its position as Los Cabos’ second-largest international market, supported by strong lift from Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, and a growing number of secondary cities like Winnipeg, Victoria, and Kelowna.

Flight occupancy from Canada hit 90% this winter, as destination officials say demand for wellness-driven getaways, private villas, and culinary travel continues to grow. The destination continues to strengthen its appeal in Canada, with increased airlift, strong advance bookings, and growing interest from both leisure and luxury travellers.

Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board.

“Canadian travellers are seeking more meaningful experiences, places where they feel safe, welcomed, and inspired,” says Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board.

“Los Cabos delivers that balance of exclusivity and authenticity. It’s a destination that invites travellers to slow down, connect with nature, and rediscover themselves far from the crowds and complications of traditional sun spots.”

The strong increase in Canadian visitors comes as Canadian travellers are seeking options to U.S. sun destinations in the wake of trade and sovereignty disputes with the Trump administration. The press release headline reads: “Canadian Arrivals to Los Cabos Surge 12% as Travellers Seek Sophisticated Sun Alternatives to the U.S.”

At the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula, Los Cabos does offer a sophisticated product, with luxury accommodations, bountiful spa product and a vibrant dining scene, including several restaurants recognized in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Mexico.
