Crystal has confirmed two major construction milestones for its first new ship in a quarter century, a pivotal moment for the cruise line since its 2022 acquisition by Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group. Steel cutting will begin in May 2026, followed by keel laying in December, with delivery slated for May 2028.
The ship, currently unnamed, marks the first vessel fully conceived under A&K’s stewardship and built in partnership with Fincantieri. While Crystal’s current fleet—the Serenity and Symphony—was extensively refitted following the brand’s relaunch, this build allows A&K to embed its design philosophy from inception, blending land-based luxury sensibilities with ocean-going craftsmanship.
“Behind the scenes, our teams have been working diligently on every element of this extraordinary project—from design and craftsmanship to technical innovation,” said Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group. “These milestones represent more than construction progress; they are a testament to our shared commitment with Fincantieri to deliver the most exceptional ship at sea.”
Beyond the symbolic return to new construction, the 2028 launch will test how far A&K’s integration of its expeditionary and bespoke-travel expertise can redefine the brand’s positioning in the luxury cruise market. Crystal has already leaned into culinary and partnership-led differentiation, from Nobu’s Umi Uma to the at-sea outpost of Monaco’s Casino de Monte-Carlo.
Details on suite categories and inaugural itineraries are expected before year-end, with the inaugural season set to open for sale in spring 2026.
