On a recent trip to Spain, I took the train from Barcelona to Sitges, a charming coastal town where the mountains overlook the beaches. There, I stayed at the brand-new Casa Mett Sitges, which became the first five-star hotel in this popular beach destination when it opened on Aug. 1. (Best of all, Sitges is located just 40 minutes from Barcelona by train.)
Sitges is an appealing town whose popularity continues to grow year after year. As Barcelona struggles with overtourism during the high season, its smaller coastal cousin offers an attractive alternative—whether for a few days away from Barcelona’s bustle or as a home base for exploring the region. Getting back and forth by train is remarkably easy and reliable, and the Sitges train station is within walking distance of most of the town’s main attractions, as well as Casa Mett Sitges.
I wasn’t familiar with Mett Hotels & Resorts before this trip, but after visiting its newest property in Sitges, as well as its flagship hotel in the mountains outside Barcelona, I came away impressed. The brand clearly focuses on delivering personalized service in opulent, unique settings, without creating a cookie-cutter experience.
Instead, Mett handpicks historic buildings, using their existing character as a starting point to create hotels that feel connected to their destinations. That is exactly what I experienced at Casa Mett Sitges, where the atmosphere felt less like staying at a traditional five-star hotel and more like being a guest at a friend’s luxurious mansion, right in the heart of the action.

Casa Mett Sitges features just 38 rooms and suites spread across five interconnected casas, giving the property an intimate, residential feel. Room categories range from Cozy and Cozy with Terrace to Deluxe and Deluxe with Terrace, while the spacious Lifestyle Terrace Room offers 645 square feet of living space.
During my stay, I checked into a Deluxe with Terrace. While the room was compact, it was extremely cozy and comfortable. The bed was exquisite, the blackout curtains worked remarkably well, and thoughtful additions such as a convenient coffee station and dresser made the space particularly functional.
I especially enjoyed the bathroom details, where terracotta tiles and copper accents gave the space a distinctly Mediterranean feel while adding plenty of warmth. The hotel provides branded bathrobes and slippers, along with daily housekeeping, turndown service, and 24-hour room service.
Throughout the room, a calming palette of earthy, neutral tones is paired with crisp whites and a handful of carefully chosen accents. Despite its compact footprint, the room never felt lacking; instead, it felt like a cozy, luxurious cocoon.
Food & Drink
Given the hotel’s intimate size, I expected the food and beverage offering to be somewhat limited, but it was surprisingly varied. Breakfast is included with every stay and combines an à la carte selection—guests can choose one dish, with options ranging from omelets to pancakes—with a buffet featuring breads, pastries, fresh fruit, cured meats, and other breakfast staples.
Lunch is served poolside, with a different menu focused primarily on colorful salads, sandwiches, and lighter fare. I particularly appreciated the change of scenery and menu; when spending several days at a resort, it is always nice not to have every meal in the same venue or choose from the same menu.
Dinner is served at the hotel’s restaurant, Balera, which turned out to be another pleasant surprise. While Italian influences are prominent, the restaurant takes a broader Mediterranean approach, with an extensive menu featuring freshly made pasta, fish, and meat dishes—a welcome change, especially after several days of indulging in traditional Spanish tapas.
The décor was a highlight in itself, continuing the hotel’s Mediterranean aesthetic with terracotta tones and accents, curved arches, textured banquettes, and custom checkered tiles.
Service throughout was attentive and personal. After just a few days, staff members knew me by name and remembered my morning coffee order—a small touch, perhaps, but one that reinforces the intimate, personalized experience Casa Mett Sitges aims to deliver.
Wellness & Fitness
Despite its size, Casa Mett Sitges offers a surprisingly well-appointed—and, of course, brand-new—gym. While the equipment selection is relatively limited, guests looking to keep up with their regular workout routine should find what they need. Weights, yoga mats, treadmills, and a Technogym bike are available 24/7.
Beyond the fitness facilities, guests can unwind in the hotel’s communal sauna, located within the wellness area. Rather than a full-service spa, the space includes the gym, showers, lockers, sauna, and a dedicated treatment room where guests can book on-site massages and other treatments.
Amenities & Features
The main attraction, of course, is the beach and Sitges’ boardwalk, located just one block from the hotel. Casa Mett Sitges isn’t directly on the beach, so guests seeking loungers and full beach service will need to visit one of the nearby beach clubs. The hotel does, however, provide guests with beach umbrellas, towels, and a beach bag, making it easy to spend the day by the sea.
Back at the hotel, the pool is equally inviting, with its distinctive yellow retro-style umbrellas adding a playful touch. Many guests will likely spend much of their downtime here, thanks to oversized daybeds, warm and attentive poolside service, and a long, refreshing pool that works equally well for swimming laps or taking a quick dip between outings.
Location & Access
Casa Mett Sitges is located approximately 25 minutes from Barcelona-El Prat Airport and a five-minute drive from the Sitges train station. Guests can easily reach the hotel by taxi or train, with frequent service from Barcelona and a journey time of approximately 40 minutes.
Sitges itself is relatively compact and best explored on foot. Once there, a car is hardly necessary, as the beach, restaurants, shops, and many of the town’s main attractions are within easy walking distance of the hotel. A tourist trolley also runs through town, offering an easy way to get from one end of Sitges to the other.
