Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills has appointed Thomas Vidal as its new general manager, effective Aug. 1, 2025, bringing a veteran hotelier with more than a decade of Japan-based leadership experience to one of Tokyo’s most design-forward luxury properties.
Vidal joins from W Osaka, where he served as hotel manager and oversaw the property’s recognition with a Michelin Key and Green Key Sustainability Certification in 2024—a rare combination in Japan’s urban luxury market. Prior to that, he held senior roles with Courtyard by Marriott, Moxy, Mercure, and Four Points by Sheraton, leading both pre-openings and operational turnarounds. His career has spanned food and beverage leadership, cluster management, and openings across multiple Japanese cities, supported by an MBA from ESSEC Business School in Paris.
“It is a great honor to join the Hyatt family and lead the exceptional team at Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills,” said Vidal. “I am deeply inspired by the Andaz brand’s commitment to authentic, unscripted hospitality and look forward to building on the hotel’s legacy of excellence.”
The appointment comes as Tokyo’s high-end hotel sector continues to expand, driven by strong inbound tourism and new development ahead of major events such as Expo 2025 Osaka. In a competitive market where design and service standards are already high, differentiation increasingly comes from cultural integration and programmatic innovation. Vidal’s background suggests a focus on deepening the property’s local connections while maintaining operational excellence.
Located in the 52-story Toranomon Hills complex between the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Tower, Andaz Tokyo offers 164 rooms and suites designed by Tony Chi & Associates and SIMPLICITY. Known for its panoramic skyline views, rooftop bar, and the Andaz Salon cultural programming series, the hotel blends modern Japanese aesthetics with a cosmopolitan outlook. Its position within a mixed-use development also places it within easy reach of both business and leisure districts.
Under Vidal’s leadership, the property is expected to build on its existing reputation, with an added emphasis on sustainability and locally informed service. His previous work in embedding environmental initiatives without compromising guest experience—as seen in Osaka—may signal future enhancements in this area for the Tokyo hotel.
