Kimpton has expanded its footprint in Mexico City with the opening of Kimpton El Castelar Polanco, a 34-room boutique hotel housed inside the restored Roel Building, a 1940 architectural landmark in the capital’s fashionable Polanco district.

Located on Emilio Castelar, just off Lincoln Park and within walking distance of Avenida Presidente Masaryk, Chapultepec Castle, the National Museum of Anthropology, and the Auditorio Nacional, the hotel occupies a historic building designed by acclaimed Mexican architect Francisco J. Serrano during the country’s Art Nouveau period. The opening is Kimpton’s second hotel in Polanco, following the debut of Kimpton Virgilio in 2024.

Rather than dramatically altering the landmark structure, the renovation emphasizes its historic character while introducing Kimpton’s contemporary lifestyle aesthetic. The 34 guest rooms feature locally sourced furnishings, original artwork by Mexican artists, and a warm palette of terracotta, natural stone, and wood inspired by traditional Mexican craftsmanship. Many accommodations also include oversized soaking tubs, while the property offers multiple private terraces and a rooftop pool overlooking the surrounding neighborhood.

Guests can also expect Kimpton’s signature brand experiences, including the complimentary Kimpton Kickstart morning coffee and tea service and the nightly Kimpton Social Hour, where beer, wine, and chef-prepared bites encourage travelers to mingle. Other familiar amenities include complimentary bicycles for exploring the neighborhood, in-room yoga mats, and the brand’s pet-friendly policy, which welcomes pets of all sizes without additional fees.

For advisors, the opening adds another boutique luxury option in one of Mexico City’s most desirable neighborhoods, appealing to clients who value design, walkability, and a strong sense of place over larger luxury properties. It also reflects a broader trend of adaptive reuse projects in Mexico City’s hospitality sector, where historic residential buildings are increasingly being transformed into intimate, high-end hotels while preserving their architectural heritage.
