Capella Hotels and Resorts has announced that it will officially land in Europe in 2027 with the debut of Capella Florence, a highly anticipated opening that blends Florentine history with the group’s signature style of ultra-luxury hospitality. Located just steps from the Duomo and Piazza della Libertà, the new property will be housed in a sensitively restored complex of 12th-century convents on Via San Gallo—an address steeped in more than 800 years of cultural legacy.

Italian architectural firms RPA and De Vita & Schulze have reimagined the historic site, with interiors helmed by French design house Liaigre. The property has served as everything from a convent to a military hospital and even housed Renaissance artist Arcangela Paladini. In Capella’s hands, it’s being transformed into an 89-key luxury retreat that nods to its past while looking firmly ahead.

Capella Florence will feature 33 suites and 56 guestrooms, as well as 10 private residences with a separate entrance. Programming centers around community and artistry: a 6,458-square-foot spa and wellness center, a rooftop bar with city views, and a subterranean wine speakeasy anchor the property. There’s even an indoor amphitheatre designed to honor the site’s centuries-long creative spirit.

Dining will include two destination restaurants: seasonal Tuscan cuisine and sushi omakase, an increasingly popular fine-dining concept among Capella’s global clientele.

“Capella Florence represents a natural evolution of our vision, bringing the Capella experience to a city where culture, history, and artistry are deeply ingrained in everyday life,” said Cristiano Rinaldi, the president of Capella Hotel Group. “In a destination as rich and layered as Florence, we are honored to collaborate with a world-renowned architect and interior designer who share our dedication to crafting spaces that respect local history while creating meaningful connections for today’s luxury traveler. It is a privilege to be entrusted with the renewal of this historic part of Florence’s cultural and communal heritage.”

With existing properties in destinations like Singapore, Sydney, Bangkok, and Ubud, Capella Florence marks the brand’s European debut and helps anchor a broader pipeline that includes Kyoto, Riyadh, Seoul, and Shenzhen. The opening follows Capella’s back-to-back wins as Travel + Leisure’s Best Hotel Brand in 2023 and 2024, and the crowning of Capella Bangkok as The World’s Best Hotel in 2024.

Capella Florence is slated to open in 2027.
