Virtuoso has appointed Thatcher Brown chief development officer, effective immediately, placing the luxury hospitality and cruise veteran in a newly created role overseeing expansion into new markets, business categories, and partnerships.
Announced yesterday, Oct. 7, the appointment builds on the executive leadership structure Virtuoso introduced earlier this year. Brown will report to President Brad Bourland and work alongside Chief Commercial Officer Tristan Dowell. Dowell will identify commercial growth opportunities, while Brown will develop the partnerships, resources, and business structures needed to pursue them.
For Virtuoso’s member agencies and preferred partners, the role supports the network’s long-term growth and broadens the value it delivers to advisors and travelers. Brown’s responsibilities include turning strategic priorities into business initiatives and establishing approaches that can be used across multiple markets.
“Virtuoso has built an extraordinary global network and there is still enormous opportunity ahead of us,” Bourland said. “Some of that opportunity lies within the relationships and communities we already serve. Some of it lies beyond the edges of what the industry looks like today.”
Brown brings nearly four decades of experience across luxury hotels, cruise, travel distribution and lifestyle businesses. His career includes senior roles with Four Seasons, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Jumeirah Group, Costa Cruises, and Crystal Cruises. He was founding president of Dream Cruises in Asia, helped launch MSC Group’s Explora Journeys and served as chief commercial officer and head of joint operations for Mark-Henry Cruise Holdings, joint owner and operator of Four Seasons Yachts.
The appointment also expands Brown’s existing relationship with Virtuoso. He first joined in 2024 as senior vice president, global products, bringing together its consumer, digital, design, and network products. He subsequently became founding CEO of residential cruise venture Crescent Seas before returning to Virtuoso as a special advisor on cruise.
“Thatcher brings a rare combination of curiosity, judgment, and execution,” Bourland said.
Virtuoso’s invitation-only network comprises more than 1,200 travel agency locations and over 20,000 advisors in 58 countries, with preferred relationships spanning 2,800 hotels, cruise lines, airlines, tour companies, and destinations.
