American Airlines is making another play for premium travelers, this time through the wine list.
Beginning May 13, the carrier rolled out a new lineup of California wines across select Flagship premium cabins as part of a broader refresh of its in-flight wine program. With airlines investing heavily in premium cabins and onboard dining, particularly on long-haul international and transcontinental routes, differentiation is increasingly coming down to the finer details of the experience, so the change isn’t surprising.
The new selections vary by route and cabin. In international Flagship First and Flagship Business, passengers will now find Truchard Vineyards Chardonnay from Carneros in Napa Valley alongside Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. On transcontinental Flagship routes, the airline is pouring Migration Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast and Justin Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles.
American says the wines were selected based on customer feedback, flavor profile, and compatibility with the airline’s chef-curated in-flight menus.
Several of the labels also come with recognizable wine-world credentials. Truchard’s Chardonnay carries a 93-point score from Wine Enthusiast, while Decoy Cabernet has become one of California’s more globally distributed cabernets, served in more than 50 countries. Migration Chardonnay has similarly strong international distribution and critical recognition, while Justin Cabernet adds brand recognition thanks to the winery’s longstanding presence in premium hospitality and fine-dining circles.
The rollout also ties into a wider premium-cabin push already underway at American. Earlier this year, the airline introduced new centennial-inspired inflight menus and has continued refining its Flagship experience as premium leisure demand remains strong.
American’s wine program itself has also received industry recognition in recent years, including Global Traveler’s “Best North American Wines on the Wing” award in 2024. The airline says additional enhancements to its wine program are expected later this summer.
