United Unveils Its Largest International Expansion Yet for 2027
The carrier will add 10 international destinations across Europe and Asia, debut new long-haul aircraft and expand nonstop service from Newark, Washington, Los Angeles, and Denver.

United Airlines will add 10 international destinations and three new routes across Europe and Asia in 2027, marking the largest international network expansion in the carrier’s history.
Beginning in March, United will introduce nonstop service from San Francisco to Okinawa, Japan, and from Washington Dulles to Toulouse, France. Newark will receive the bulk of the new service, with flights to Luxembourg City; Marseille, France; Ibiza and Valencia, Spain; Terceira, Portugal; Ljubljana, Slovenia; and the Italian cities of Olbia, Sardinia, and Catania, Sicily.
Eight of the destinations are not currently served nonstop from the United States by another U.S. airline, which will ultimately make it easier to build itineraries around destinations that have traditionally required a European connection—particularly the Azores, Sardinia, Sicily, and Slovenia. Tickets for the new routes are now available, subject to government approval.
United will also launch three additional international routes: Washington Dulles to Milan, three times weekly beginning May 28; Denver to Paris, daily beginning May 27; and Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan, three times weekly beginning March 27. The carrier plans to restore three-times-weekly service between San Francisco and Tel Aviv on March 28.
Several of the new European routes will be operated using United’s Airbus A321XLR, which the airline has branded “Born to Explore.” The single-aisle aircraft will include 20 Polaris suites with privacy doors, 12 Premium Plus seats, free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, and 4K OLED entertainment screens. International service aboard the aircraft will begin Dec. 1, 2026, with flights from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin.
“We’ve added flights to nearly 60 new international cities in the last decade, building a global network with the breadth and reach to set travel trends and inspire even the most discerning travelers to discover somewhere new,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of global network planning and alliances.
United will also bring back its summer 2026 additions from Newark to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain, for the 2027 season.
