Oceania Cruises transitioned to an adults-only experience beginning this week, starting Jan. 7, limiting all new reservations for future voyages to guests aged 18 and over. The policy now applies fleetwide and is designed to reshape the onboard environment going forward, while honoring any existing bookings made before that date that include travelers under 18.

It’s a clear operational change for the line, which has historically welcomed multigenerational travelers. Oceania says the decision followed extensive feedback from repeat guests and new-to-brand passengers, many of whom cited the appeal of a quieter onboard atmosphere as a core reason for choosing the brand.

“Our guests have consistently shared that the tranquil environment aboard our ships is one of the primary reasons they return time and time again,” said Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises. “By transitioning to an adults-only experience, we are enhancing the very essence of the Oceania Cruises journey—one defined by sophistication, serenity and discovery.”

Oceania is preparing for a major fleet evolution with the launch of its Sonata Class, beginning with Oceania Sonata in August 2027. The 86,000-gross-ton ship will carry 1,390 guests with a crew of 855, reinforcing the line’s emphasis on space and service. One of the most notable design changes is the expanded suite offering: 33 percent of accommodations will be suites, a higher proportion than on any previous Oceania vessel.

The suite collection spans six categories, led by four Owner’s Suites exceeding 2,500 square feet, each with two bedrooms and expansive wraparound verandas. Eight Vista Suites range from roughly 1,500 to 1,900 square feet and are positioned at the aft of the ship for uninterrupted ocean views. Sixteen Oceania Suites follow at 1,000 to 1,400 square feet, while a new category, the 50 Horizon Suites, sits between Penthouse and Oceania Suites in size, offering more than 600 square feet and oversized verandas.

Rounding out the lineup are 63 Penthouse Suites and 82 Penthouse Deluxe Suites, measuring 426 and 488 square feet, respectively. All suites will feature dedicated butler service, with select categories also including in-suite Illy coffee machines. Across the ship, accommodations will incorporate Oceania’s next-generation Tranquility Beds and Aquamar bath amenities.

Together, the adults-only policy and the expanded suite mix point are part of the line’s ongoing transition toward luxury. Details on Oceania Sonata’s inaugural itineraries will be released Jan. 21, 2026, with bookings opening Jan. 28.
