Abercrombie & Kent is tightening its grip on the high end of adventure travel with the acquisition of Copenhagen-based Borealis DMC, giving the global operator full coverage across the Nordics, from Greenland and the Faroe Islands to Sweden and Finland.
Borealis has been A&K’s long-time partner on the ground, known for insider access to indigenous communities, hard-to-reach landscapes, and a local-first ethos. But now under the A&K umbrella, advisors can expect the same DMC support they rely on elsewhere in the world, including 24-hour operations, consistency of service, and integration with the company’s global network of more than 65 offices.
“The Nordic region has become a guest favorite amongst luxury travelers seeking authentic wilderness experiences,” said Rebecca Osman, chief destination officer at A&K Travel Group. “This acquisition aligns perfectly with our commitment to unlocking impossible possibilities for both our discerning travelers and our trade partners.”
For Borealis founder Marcella Infantino, the acquisition represents both continuity and evolution: “We’ve partnered with A&K for several years, and this acquisition feels like a natural evolution. A&K understands what makes the Nordic region special—our relationships with local communities and commitment to authentic wilderness experiences.”
The practical upside here for sellers is twofold. First, the Nordics are increasingly a hot ticket for affluent clients who want less crowded alternatives to mainstream Europe. Interest in Northern Lights trips, midnight sun itineraries, and new expedition-style extensions into Greenland has spiked in recent years. Second, having Borealis fully integrated within A&K’s global DMC portfolio means clients benefit from the same logistical strength they’d get in Botswana or Peru. It’s a one-stop shop for complex, multi-region itineraries.
The Nordic acquisition also ties into A&K’s broader investment strategy, which has recently included new DMCs in Mexico and Indonesia and continued development of the Sanctuary portfolio of lodges and riverboats. With the freshly-reopened Gorilla Forest Lodge in Uganda and new product in Kenya and on the Nile, the company is clearly positioning itself as the go-to operator for advisors selling far-flung luxury.
Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy will also be active in the Nordics, extending the company’s conservation and cultural preservation efforts to a region where sustainability is not a marketing line but an expectation.
The acquisition underscores a broader shift in luxury travel demand: As clients look beyond classic Europe for quieter, more authentic experiences, the Nordics are emerging as both a growth market and a proving ground for what “luxury” means in the future.
