As Fairmont Mayakoba marks its 20th anniversary year, the Riviera Maya resort is also ushering in a new leadership chapter.
Fairmont Mayakoba has appointed Gonzalo Güelman Ros as general manager, bringing aboard an executive with more than three decades of luxury hospitality experience across Mexico, the Caribbean, and the Americas. Ros most recently served as general manager of The St. Regis Punta Mita and has previously held leadership roles with brands including Hilton Worldwide’s Conrad, Marriott International’s Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis, IHG Hotels & Resorts, and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
The appointment comes as the 401-room resort has spent the past year expanding its wellness and cultural programming while continuing to position itself as one of the Riviera Maya’s most established luxury resorts. Recent additions include a new Wellness Suite concept and “Past, Present, and Paradise,” an immersive art installation spotlighting Riviera Maya artists.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Fairmont Mayakoba team,” Ros said in a statement. “It is truly an honor to become part of a property that has achieved so much over the past 20 years. My goal is to build upon this remarkable legacy and further position Fairmont Mayakoba as Mexico’s premier luxury destination, while motivating our team to continue creating unforgettable experiences for our guests every day.”
Beyond traditional hotel operations, Ros also brings experience in luxury residential and lifestyle development. He founded Talisman Group, a luxury residential lifestyle curation firm, and previously served as co-CEO and managing director of Xala Development, an eco-conscious project on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
The resort said Ros will focus on “thoughtful service and elevated programming” as the property continues its next phase of evolution.
