Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos Review: A Smart Pick for Couples Who Want Intimacy Without Sacrifice
Advisors love Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos for its ultra-luxury all-inclusive concept, its adult-only quiet setting and Michelin-dining—here’s how to book it best.

Velas Resorts has been doing things its way since opening its first property 35 years ago. Located exclusively in Mexico and family-owned, this collection of ultra-luxury hotels is known for its distinctive all-inclusive high-level concept, one where the client is king and the staff-to-client ratio is among the highest in the market.
The latest opening, Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos, is their third property in Baja California Sur and their first boutique concept dedicated to adults in the destination.
I’ve had the chance to experience all of Velas’ properties over the years, and I was especially looking forward to seeing their newest addition. Because if one thing is certain, the brand almost never disappoints. Their standards are among the highest in the industry, their properties are flawless, and the stays are consistently close to perfection.
Once again, they’ve delivered with Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos, which has instantly become my new favorite property in their portfolio. Here’s why.

When you walk into the open-air lobby, you immediately notice the signature bougainvillea flowers adorning each balcony, a hallmark of Velas Resorts. On your right, you see Grand Velas, and on the horizon, the ocean stretches out ahead.
But what stands out most at this new boutique property is the pool design. The custom-made mosaic at the bottom, with its shades of green and pink, is designed to evoke a garden. It is absolutely stunning. The interplay of shapes, colors, height, and perspective transforms the pool into a true piece of art—and the standout feature of the resort—creating an infinity effect that blends seamlessly into the Sea of Cortez.
Another particularly appreciated perk: guests of Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos have full access to the amenities and gourmet restaurants at its sister property, Grand Velas Los Cabos, located right next door, at no additional cost. Given the intimate size of the boutique property, it’s especially nice to enjoy all the activities: daily yoga, pool fitness classes, workshops, and more, without being in the middle of the action. The expanded dining options also come in very handy, especially for an extended stay.
Here’s what else luxury travel advisors should know when booking Grand Velas Boutique Hotel:
Why Travel Advisors Book It
- The ultra-all-inclusive concept makes it easy for guests who prefer to know exactly how much they’ll spend during their stay.
- The boutique hotel is adults-only (18+), making it ideal for those seeking a more romantic and intimate setting.
- The property offers only suites, all generously sized and featuring private plunge pools—ideal for those craving privacy.
- Mar del Cabo and Grand Velas Los Cabos, the two other Velas properties, are located next door, making it easy to “hotel-hop”—ideal for guests who want a variety of experiences during their stay.

Rooms & Suites
Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos features 79 suites, each with more than 900 square feet. All accommodations include a separate living area with a sofa, an oversized bathroom, and generous outdoor space. Offering either garden or ocean views, each suite’s private terrace is spacious and features outdoor seating, a plunge pool, and a fire pit.
The room design is contemporary with a distinct Mexican touch, showcasing a neutral palette enriched by layered textures and curated Mexican art, complemented by elegant metal accents. The bathrooms, nearly as large as the suites themselves, feature a Vitamin C–filtered handheld showerhead that neutralizes chlorine while enhancing water performance, along with Molton Brown amenities, a standalone bathtub, double sinks, and a walk-in closet complete with a Dyson hairdryer and hair straightener. It’s a thoughtful touch, given that these items are bulky and inconvenient to travel with, and Velas clearly understands its clientele.
As the hotel is adults-only, most accommodations are king suites, though some options with two queen beds are available. The Elite King Suite is a two-bedroom configuration, ideal for friends traveling together.
All suites also include a pillow menu, ironing services, and 24/7 butler service. The customized minibar—refilled daily—is stocked with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. Each stay is further enhanced by a welcome amenity, including a bottle of wine and a bowl of fresh fruit.

Food & Drink
Velas Resorts sets itself apart—especially for an all-inclusive property—through the caliber of its dining. Its on-site restaurants are of exceptional quality, led by Michelin-starred chefs, acclaimed sommeliers, and mixologists. You consistently feel as though you’re dining at an exclusive standalone restaurant, yet it’s all included in your stay. The wine list is impressively extensive, even by-the-glass, and the menus are both highly creative and beautifully executed.
Another detail I particularly appreciated: each meal is served in a distinct venue. Considering the boutique property’s smaller scale, this actually enhances the experience—you never feel like you’re dining in the same place for every meal. Guests can enjoy a change of setting throughout the day or opt to dine next door at Grand Velas Los Cabos for even more variety.
For breakfast, guests at Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos can choose in-room dining or enjoy al fresco service at Del Mar, which is open exclusively in the morning and offers an à la carte menu featuring smoothie bowls, pancakes, and omelets, alongside a small buffet of pastries, fresh fruit, and an egg station.
At lunch, Roca serves ceviches, salads, and fresh oceanfront fare. The pool also has a distinct all-day menu. Dinner centers on Loto, which I thoroughly enjoyed, offering Japanese-Mexican fusion cuisine that works surprisingly well. The menu, created by two-Michelin-starred chef Sidney Schutte, is extensive, featuring sushi, maki, daily catches, and meats cooked on a custom robata grill, complemented by standout sides and appetizers. It was so good I considered dining there every night (especially since it’s the only on-site dinner option), but I eventually ventured next door for variety.
At Grand Velas Los Cabos, guests have access to additional dining experiences, including the Michelin-starred Cocina de Autor, where an 8–10-course tasting menu highlights the finest local produce, meats, and seafood (one dinner is included per stay). Other venues include Sen Lin, a newly opened Thai restaurant; Lucca, an Italian eatery; Frida, serving elevated Mexican cuisine; and Velas 10, the resort’s signature steakhouse.
It’s worth emphasizing that food is taken very seriously across the board, and nearly every meal feels close to perfection. In a destination like Los Cabos, where excellent dining options abound, Velas still stands out with a consistently strong and refined food and beverage program. And because it’s all included, enjoying every meal on property never feels like a compromise—as it sometimes can at all-inclusive resorts.

Wellness & Fitness
The spa experience is taken just as seriously. The spa at Grand Velas Los Cabos, recognized by the Forbes Travel Guide, spans 35,000 square feet and centers around an immersive water journey. While the boutique spa is smaller in scale, it reflects the same concept and delivers a similarly refined experience.
Each guest is accompanied by a personal spa valet who guides them through every step—from offering a cold towel after the steam room to placing cooling cucumbers over the eyes while they relax in the sauna. A tranquil nap room concludes the water ritual, and treatments are thoughtfully personalized to meet each guest’s specific needs. The spa menu is extensive, featuring a wide range of massages, body treatments, facials, and hand and foot therapies.
In addition to the spa, the boutique property offers a bright, fully equipped Technogym fitness center, open 24/7, with a personal trainer on-site to guide and assist guests with their workout routines. Guests can also access daily fitness classes at Grand Velas, including water spinning, pool Pilates, terrace yoga, and meditation sessions.

Amenities & Features
The boutique hotel is relatively small and doesn’t offer extensive on-site entertainment, but that’s part of its appeal in my opinion. I personally appreciated the sense of calm it provides. It’s ideal for guests seeking peace and quiet, with the main attractions being the pool and the beach.
Good to know: while Velas Resorts properties are set on stunning stretches of coastline, the beach on-site is not swimmable, which is very common in Los Cabos. Guests can relax on beach chairs set up daily by the staff, but it’s more about enjoying the sound and scent of the ocean. For those who do want to swim, the nearest “Blue Flag” beach is within walking distance. That being said, most hotels are set across the shoreline where the beach is not recommended, so you’re not missing out.
For those looking for more activity, guests can easily head next door to Grand Velas Los Cabos, either on foot or via the golf cart service, to enjoy a wider range of amenities, including games, activities, and recreational facilities.
At the boutique property, a tasting room offers a different experience each day. During my visit, there was a chocolate tasting, though offerings can range from wine and mezcal to a variety of Mexican delicacies. There’s also a coffee and cocktail bar in the lobby—open 20 hours a day—which features live sports on a large screen, providing a more social atmosphere for those who want it.

Location & Access
Grand Velas Boutique Hotel Los Cabos is located along the tourist corridor between the two Cabos—Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo—though it sits closer to San José, arguably the more charming of the two.
The airport is approximately a 30-minute drive away, while San José del Cabo is just 20 minutes from the resort, known for its quaint streets, local boutiques, and art galleries. Cabo San Lucas, where the marina is located, is less appealing by comparison—more commercial, louder, and lacking the same charm.
Private car service can be arranged through the hotel and is highly recommended. Ride-sharing services like Uber are not always available at the airport and can be inconsistent upon arrival. While they are widely available in the area afterward, airport pickups can be tricky. Taxis are also an option, but fares are often negotiable. As this may not be how most travelers want to begin their vacation, booking the hotel’s car service is by far the most seamless and stress-free choice.

How to Book Smart
Grand Velas Boutique Hotel is part of Virtuoso Preferred Partners and can be booked on their GDS system.
When guests book a 3-night minimum stay, the hotel offers 10% off on selected suites, unlimited access to the Wellness Ceremony, a complimentary 50-minute treatment per adult, per stay, and 50% off round-trip transportation from the airport.
