Marriott International has opened reservations for its new JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, a 19-key luxury tented retreat set to debut in July within Kenya’s Solio Game Reserve. The property, owned and operated by Lazizi Solio Limited, is another step into the company’s push into high-end, experience-driven safari lodging across East Africa.
Set between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range, the camp is intended to be a low-density alternative to more trafficked safari circuits, with access to one of the country’s most established private rhino conservancies. Solio is widely known for its successful breeding program for both white and endangered black rhinos, offering consistent sightings alongside lions, leopards, and plains game.
The camp will feature 19 tented suites, including a two-bedroom unit aimed at families or small groups. Each is planned with indoor-outdoor living space and open views across the landscape, aligning with JW Marriott’s broader positioning around quiet, wellness-oriented travel. That carries through to the public areas, with a Spa by JW, fitness center, pool, and the brand’s signature JW Garden, which will supply ingredients for both culinary and spa programming.
Dining is spread across three venues, including a main restaurant, garden-based outdoor setups, and bush dining experiences that lean into local sourcing and seasonal menus. A central Map Room with a detailed overview of the conservancy will serve as a planning hub for daily activities.
Programming is built around both traditional and more active safari formats. Game drives (day and night), guided walks, and cycling safaris are all on offer, and the conservancy’s controlled visitor numbers will help limit vehicle density on sightings.
The product here is firmly in the “soft adventure meets structured luxury” category, comparable to other branded safari camps entering the market, but with a smaller key count and a stronger emphasis on privacy. Marriott has pointed to growing demand for nontraditional, outdoor-led luxury stays as a key driver behind its safari expansion, noting “the growing appetite for outdoor lodging and nontraditional hospitality experiences” as a catalyst for these projects.
Bookings are now open for stays beginning in July.
