Marriott International is expanding its footprint across South Asia with the debut of Autograph Collection Hotels in Nepal. The Soaltee Kathmandu, Autograph Collection, is now open, becoming the first property under the brand in the region and Marriott’s 19th brand in South Asia.
Set on 12 acres in Kathmandu’s lush Tahachal neighborhood, the storied property, first opened in 1966, has long been a symbol of Nepalese hospitality. This new chapter for The Soaltee marks Marriott’s continued push into South Asia’s heritage-rich travel markets.
The 285-room hotel delivers on Autograph Collection’s hallmark of individuality through a deep sense of place and storytelling. A signature installation called “The Storyteller” threads through the public spaces, showcasing personal guest narratives and historical artifacts that reflect the property’s legacy. Many rooms offer sweeping views of the Himalayas and the sacred Swoyambhunath Stupa, grounding guests in Kathmandu’s spiritual and geographical grandeur.

Interior design blends Nepalese heritage with modern elegance—think intricate wooden jaalis, exposed brick, and traditional Thangka art layered against contemporary comforts and technology. Guests can dine across multiple venues, from Nepali thalis at Garden Terrace to Awadhi delicacies at Kakori, and Chinese cuisine at Bao Xuan. A lively sports lounge and open-air patio round out the F&B offering.
Wellness amenities include a full-service spa offering traditional Newari massages and Ayurvedic therapies, a 24-hour gym, outdoor pool, and clay tennis court. The hotel also features 25,000 square feet of flexible event space, suited for high-profile weddings, conferences, and cultural gatherings.
Sustainability is also a top priority. The Soaltee Kathmandu integrates eco-conscious practices, including an in-house water bottling plant, waste-reduction measures, and an on-site herb garden.
“This debut is a proud milestone for Marriott,” said Ranju Alex, regional vice-president for South Asia. “The Soaltee Kathmandu perfectly aligns with our vision of delivering immersive, one-of-a-kind stays across the region.”
As Kathmandu continues to rise as a long‑stay and leisure hub—Nepal welcomed a record 1,147,567 international tourists in 2024, marking a substantial 13.1 % year‑on‑year increase—this opening positions Marriott to tap into both global and regional demand for bespoke travel experiences in the Himalayas.
