Minor Hotels will close out 2025 with a new flag in the Maldives, reopening the former Reethi Beach Resort on Dec. 18 under its NH Collection brand. The six-month transformation brings updated villas, refreshed dining venues, and a sharper design language to one of the Indian Ocean’s most in-demand atolls.
The repositioning reflects Minor’s ongoing effort to scale NH Collection beyond its European base. For the Maldives, the move inserts a mid-luxury player into a region increasingly dominated by ultra-luxury and lifestyle names. The group is banking on brand familiarity, a competitive price point, and its location within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve to draw both returning guests and first-time visitors.
That location is the Baa Atoll, long regarded as one of the archipelago’s marquee destinations. The atoll is home to Hanifaru Bay, the seasonal gathering spot for manta rays and whale sharks, and already supports several established international brands. NH Collection’s bet is that a design-led refresh—plus new villas with private plunge pools—will be enough to claim space in a crowded field without eroding the island’s reputation for accessible, nature-rich escapes.

The 105 villas are divided between beach and overwater, with 16 new pool categories designed to attract higher-yield bookings. Dining has been expanded to seven venues, including Alifaan, a grill centered on wood-fired cuisine; Kaiyo, an overwater restaurant with an Asian focus; and Jumla, the all-day venue. Bars and lounges are positioned around both the infinity pool and sunset-facing beachfront, and a rum bar adds a distinct signature. Experiences extend to private dining in a wine cellar or al fresco settings under the Adrift concept.
On the activity side, the resort leans on its proximity to Hanifaru Bay and a strong house reef. Watersports range from paddleboarding and kayaking to powered options, such as jet skiing and flyboarding. On land, the newly imagined REVIVE spa anchors the wellness offering, while the Activity Center includes a fitness suite, games room, children’s club, and multiple courts, adding family appeal to a market often skewed toward honeymooners.
For Minor Hotels, the December opening will test how NH Collection resonates in an Indian Ocean market where luxury positioning has become the default. The group suggests that there is still space for properties that merge a polished European brand aesthetic with the allure of Maldivian marine life and the barefoot island character.
