Rosewood Hotel Georgia has appointed Maykel Escalona as its new managing director, adding a seasoned leader to one of Vancouver’s most recognizable hotels.
Escalona joins from Rosewood Miramar Beach in California, where he most recently served as acting resort manager. His career with Rosewood has also taken him to Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort in Hawaii, and The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel in New York—assignments that reflect the brand’s focus on heritage properties with strong cultural ties.
“I am thrilled to step into the role and join the team at Rosewood Hotel Georgia, a property that has long set the standard for timeless elegance and exceptional service,” Escalona said in a release. “I look forward to blending the hotel’s rich history with fresh ideas and experiences that celebrate both its legacy and the energy of the city.”
Prior to joining Rosewood, Escalona held leadership roles at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, The Beekman in New York, 1 Hotel South Beach, Fontainebleau Miami Beach, and the Ritz-Carlton. Across these posts, he developed experience in food and beverage programs, hotel openings, and Forbes Five-Star service delivery.
His arrival comes on the heels of Rosewood Hotel Georgia’s 2024 reimagining, which refreshed interiors and updated programming while preserving the building’s 1927 character. The 156-room hotel remains a cornerstone of Vancouver’s luxury offering, with six dining venues, the award-winning Sense spa, and heritage spaces including the historic ballroom.
With Escalona at the helm, the hotel embarks on its next chapter, led by a leadership team rooted in both Rosewood’s global culture and an understanding of how to steward properties with a deep local identity.
