The Colony Club on Barbados’ Platinum Coast has reopened under Marriott International’s Luxury Collection, marking the brand’s debut on the island.
Originally built in the 1930s as a private residence, the property evolved into one of Barbados’ first residential clubs and has remained a fixture for over 70 years. The latest renovation preserves the colonial character while introducing modern updates across the 96 rooms and suites, which have been redesigned with ocean-inspired palettes and bespoke furnishings.
Programming highlights distinguish the relaunch. The Rum Vault, the first of its kind in Barbados, features over 150 rums, accompanied by curated tastings led by a Rum Ambassador. Culinary offerings include open-air dining at Laguna, themed evenings such as Lobster & Jazz, and an Island-to-Table series using produce from the on-site organic garden. Sunset Bar & Deck serves lighter fare by the beach with views of the island’s west-coast sunsets.
Wellness has also been expanded. The Spa at Colony Club features treatments influenced by Barbadian traditions, set in gardens that also supply ingredients for cooking classes. The property maintains its lagoon-style pools and water-sports program, with both motorized and non-motorized options included.
One of the biggest changes is Colony Club’s move to a European Plan. In a market dominated by all-inclusive resorts, the model offers flexibility for guests who prefer to curate their own dining while still enjoying the island’s broader restaurant scene.
For Barbados, the reopening brings fresh international visibility at a time when the island is competing more directly with destinations like St. Lucia and Turks and Caicos for high-spending travelers.
Colony Club reopened September 1 and is now accepting reservations.
