The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort has appointed Richard Sorensen as general manager, bringing more than 30 years of luxury hospitality experience to the oceanfront property in Mexico. His background spans international city hotels and coastal resorts, including leadership roles at properties recognized with Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond ratings.

Sorensen will oversee all resort operations, including accommodations, dining, wellness, and the signature St. Regis Butler Service. His priorities include developing the resort’s team, strengthening guest relationships and connecting the different elements of a stay through thoughtful preparation and personalized attention.

His career includes 13 years with Four Seasons, as well as leadership positions with The Peninsula Hotels in New York, Chicago, and Tokyo. In senior hotel management roles in New York and Los Cabos, he led teams that earned their respective properties’ first Forbes Five-Star recognition.

Most recently, Sorensen served as general manager of a luxury beach resort in Encinitas, California, following senior leadership assignments in Los Cabos. That combination gives him experience managing both urban luxury hotels and Mexican beach resorts, with a focus on guests who value discretion and service tailored to their preferences.

Sorensen also brings a longstanding personal connection to the destination: an avid surfer, he first visited Punta Mita years before The St. Regis resort was built. He speaks English and Spanish, and his interests include fitness, wellness, and the ocean.
