At the 2025 Paris Air Show, All Nippon Airways debuted a game-changer for premium travelers on mid-size aircraft: The Room FX. The new business class seat, custom-designed for the Boeing 787-9, marks ANA’s first seat refresh on a long-haul mid-sized plane in over a decade.
A follow-up to the widely acclaimed ‘The Room’ seat introduced on ANA’s Boeing 777-300ER in 2019, The Room FX was co-developed with long-time partners Safran Seats and Acumen Design Associates. The new suite builds on its predecessor’s DNA while tailoring the experience to the smaller 787-9 footprint without compromising space. Each seat includes a full-height privacy door, a dramatically widened living space, and a unique alternating layout that maximizes cabin real estate.

“ANA is dedicated to providing the highest level of a customer experience and is investing in the future of the most advanced and comfortable travel with the new ‘The Room FX’ seat,” said Tomoji Ishii, the executive vice-president of customer experience at ANA. “This seat represents our commitment to exceeding expectations and shaping the future of luxury flight.”
Passengers can stretch out on a pre-reclined, sofa-like seat that transitions into a lie-flat bed—supported by enhancements like a 1.4x larger monitor, wireless charging, Bluetooth audio, and ample storage. Curved lines, slimmer walls, and a strategic seat arrangement help deliver a widebody-style spatial experience in a mid-size cabin.

“At Safran Seats, we are proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with ANA through the launch of ‘The Room FX’,” said Victoria Foy, the company’s president and CEO. “This new business class seat represents a step-change in comfort, versatility, and innovative design for the Boeing 787-9.”
“’The Room FX’ project is a result of a profound, long-standing partnership between ANA, Acumen and Safran—shaped by years of trust, creativity and innovation,” said Ian Dryburgh, CEO and founder of Acumen. “This is a refreshingly original and market leading Business Class product that we believe will exceed passengers’ expectations for many years to come.”
ANA will begin rolling out The Room FX on long-haul 787-9 routes starting in 2026.
