Cunard Reveals Major Queen Mary 2 Refurbishment for 2027
The ocean liner will add new suites, revamped wellness and entertainment spaces, and expanded kennels during a six-week dry dock.

Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will undergo an extensive refurbishment in spring 2027, bringing new accommodations, updated public spaces, and an expanded kennel program to the world’s only ocean liner.
The ship will enter dry dock at Damen Shiprepair Brest in France on March 31 and return to service on May 9. The project will add 31 staterooms, including 16 Princess Grill Suites and 15 Britannia-category accommodations. The new rooms are already on sale for voyages departing from May 2027.
All existing Grill Suites will receive new interiors, furnishings and finishes, as well as redesigned bathrooms with spa-inspired features. Cunard will also refresh the Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants while adding more outdoor deck space for guests.
Queen Mary 2’s kennels—the only dedicated kennels at sea—will gain additional capacity and redesigned accommodations. Plans also call for a renovated owners’ lounge and a larger outdoor walking area, expanding options for travelers who want to cross the Atlantic with their pets.
Elsewhere on board, Mareel Wellness & Beauty will be transformed, and a new collection of luxury boutiques will be introduced. Illuminations, billed as the largest planetarium at sea, will receive a digital upgrade designed to create more immersive shows. The Royal Court Theatre and Cunard’s Insights enrichment program will continue to host theatrical productions, speakers, and cultural figures.
Chris Finch, one of Queen Mary 2’s original designers, is leading the new design. The interiors will draw on classic Hollywood glamour and British tradition while retaining the ship’s Art Deco character.
“Queen Mary 2 is more than a ship, she is an icon of modern luxury travel and the only true ocean liner in the world,” said Katie McAlister, president of Cunard. “We are not reinventing what guests love about her; we are refining it beautifully and ensuring she carries it forward.”
Queen Mary 2 is the only ship operating regularly scheduled transatlantic crossings between New York and Southampton. In addition to those signature voyages, the ocean liner sails itineraries in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean.
