Luxury advisors selling French Polynesia will soon have a new tool in their portfolio: Ponant Explorations Group is expanding its footprint in the region with the introduction of Le Jacques Cartier to French Polynesia for the 2026–27 winter season. This will be the first time the brand’s sleek, expedition-style Explorer-class ships will sail the region, offering a more remote, adventure-forward option that complements the year-round, culturally immersive cruises of sister brand Paul Gauguin.
While Paul Gauguin Cruises has long held the mantle of destination expertise, operating in French Polynesia for over 26 years, Le Jacques Cartier will reach even farther. Itineraries include rare calls to the Gambier and Austral Islands—remote archipelagos that remain virtually untouched by mainstream tourism. These sailings will give deeper regional access for seasoned travelers ready to look beyond the marquee Society and Marquesas Islands.
From a product differentiation standpoint, this dual-brand approach is notable. The Paul Gauguin caters to guests seeking cultural warmth, comfort, and local tradition, while Le Jacques Cartier is built for boutique expedition cruising. Advisors can now align products with client profiles: the relaxed, all-inclusive style of Paul Gauguin versus the more exploratory, nature-driven experience aboard Jacques Cartier, which features an onboard marina, included excursions, and naturalist-led outings.
Three 14-night sailings will operate round-trip from Papeete between October 2026 and February 2027, with starting fares ranging from $10,900 to $11,550 per guest. Advisors should note that Le Jacques Cartier accommodates just 184 guests, making early bookings essential for high-season departures.
“With Le Jacques Cartier joining the Gauguin in Polynesia, we’re expanding the choices available to discerning travelers seeking authenticity, elegance and adventure,” said Samuel Chamberlain, the CEO of Ponant Explorations Group in the Americas.
For advisors focused on luxury honeymoons, milestone travel, or clients who’ve “done” Bora Bora, these itineraries offer a next-level option. The Austral and Gambier Islands offer a slower pace, vibrant biodiversity, and deep ties to Polynesian heritage, ideal for clients seeking exclusivity without sacrificing cultural resonance.
