Secret Atlas Adds 36-Guest Explorer Yacht Aureum for Antarctica Expeditions
The new 36-guest explorer yacht is set to begin operating in Antarctica and South Georgia in 2027.

Secret Atlas is adding Aureum, a new 36-guest explorer yacht that will operate in Antarctica and South Georgia beginning with the 2027-28 season. According to the company, it will be the first purpose-designed expedition vessel of its size to operate in Antarctica.
Built around Secret Atlas’ Expedition Micro Cruise concept, Aureum will feature 22 cabins, including suites and eight dedicated single cabins offered without a single supplement. Its limited capacity will allow for smaller groups during landings and wildlife excursions, while maintaining an intimate atmosphere onboard.
“The introduction of Aureum represents a significant milestone for Secret Atlas and our Expedition Micro Cruise concept,” said Michele D’Agostino, co-founder of Secret Atlas. “As demand grows for meaningful, small-group polar expeditions, Aureum enables us to bring our distinctive explorer-led approach to Antarctica and South Georgia on a vessel purpose-designed for just 36 guests.”
Onboard amenities will include a panoramic observation lounge, bridge lounge, expansive outdoor viewing decks and an open observation bow. A wellness area will feature a sauna and outdoor hot tub, while the ship’s restaurant will accommodate all guests together for a single dinner seating.
Secret Atlas will maintain a ratio of one polar guide for every six guests aboard Aureum, providing travelers with greater access to expedition leaders, scientists and naturalists.
The addition of Aureum also marks Secret Atlas’ expansion beyond the Arctic, with new itineraries exploring Antarctica and South Georgia. Among the highlights is the new Antarctica By Air program, designed to reduce time spent crossing the Drake Passage and maximize time in the destination.
Operating from the company’s expedition hub in Puerto Natales, Chile, the program allows guests to fly directly to Antarctica. Itineraries include the Antarctic Circle By Air Expedition Micro Cruise and the Antarctic Peninsula By Air & Sea Expedition Micro Cruise, which combines a flight with a one-way sailing from Ushuaia, Argentina.
Additional itineraries aboard Aureum will focus on South Georgia and combine the destination with Antarctica, including a special expedition inspired by explorer Ernest Shackleton.
Bookings are now open for Aureum‘s 2027-28 and 2028-29 Antarctica and South Georgia seasons.
