COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali, long regarded as one of the world’s leading wellness retreats, is marking its 20th anniversary with a major refresh. The 22-acre property has reopened its Ojas wellness centre after a comprehensive redesign and completion of renovations to two of its signature residences.

The new Ojas centre, by Atelier Ikebuchi, sits in a jungle clearing above the Ayung River, where a natural spring has been used for centuries in local purification rituals. The redesign introduces marble, teak, and open spaces that connect guests to the surrounding landscape. It’s a reminder that COMO continues to lean on the Estate’s location as much as its service and facilities—a contrast to newer properties where wellness is often a bolt-on.

Alongside traditional practices like Ayurveda, yoga, and breathwork, the Estate is rolling out new therapies aimed at a more data-driven wellness audience. Guests can now book Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy sessions to boost recovery and sleep, infrared saunas for detoxification, and aquatic bodywork in a hydrotherapy pool. These additions reflect a broader shift: wellness travel that blends cultural heritage with measurable outcomes.

“The Estate’s location resonates differently to any other place I know,” said Christina Ong, the COMO Group’s founder. “It has a healing heritage that’s been here for thousands of years, revolving around the sacred spring and the energy of the flowing river. All I needed to do was honor that knowledge.”

Programming has been adapted to capture a wider range of travelers. New one- and two-day Wellness Programs offer a taste of the Estate experience, while multi-night “Wellness Paths” and six-night Signature Retreats remain available for those looking for a deeper reset. This balance allows the property to serve both first-time guests and long-stay regulars.

Residential upgrades include Wanakasa, a villa built around a banyan tree high above the river, and Bayugita, which overlooks the rice fields with a dramatic infinity pool and meditation garden. Both have been reimagined with updated interiors that preserve their distinct character while bringing them in line with today’s luxury standards.

With its anniversary overhaul, COMO Shambhala Estate is reinforcing what it pioneered: a wellness model rooted in place, refined through design, and updated with therapies that speak to a new generation of health-focused travelers.
