A new experiential hospitality brand has entered the market. Beckons officially launched this week, bringing together the portfolios of Baillie Lodges and Tierra Hotels under a single global banner spanning Australia, New Zealand, Chile, and Canada.

At launch, the brand includes nine remote lodges across four continents, most operating at a deliberately small scale with an average of about 25 suites per property. The collection combines Baillie Lodges’ Australian and New Zealand portfolio with Tierra Hotels’ properties in Chile, along with Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge on Vancouver Island. The group says approximately $100 million has been invested across the portfolio in recent years through renovations, rebuilds, and new guest facilities.

The announcement consolidates two companies with more than two decades of experience developing high-end lodges in remote landscapes. Baillie Lodges, founded in Australia in 2003, built its reputation around properties in destinations such as Kangaroo Island, the Daintree Rainforest, and Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park. Tierra Hotels, based in Chile, operates design-forward lodges in Patagonia and the Atacama Desert, each built to reflect its surroundings.

Beckons is led by chief executive officer Michael Crawford, who previously worked at Four Seasons and The Walt Disney Company. In announcing the new brand, Crawford framed the portfolio around immersive travel experiences connected closely to local culture and landscapes.

“Our portfolio is a platform for travelers to experience the world more deeply through genuine cultural exchange,” Crawford said. “We believe meaningful travel should enrich everyone it touches: our guests, our teams, and the places that welcome us. Our people are at the heart of that hospitality philosophy, bringing a generosity of spirit and a shared commitment to emotional connection, regeneration, and cultural continuity to every journey.”

Several of the properties included in the launch have undergone significant upgrades in the past two years. Huka Lodge in Taupō, New Zealand, and Tierra Atacama in northern Chile both reopened in early 2025 following extensive renovations. Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island reopened in late 2023 after being rebuilt following the 2019 bushfires that destroyed the original property.

Across the Australian portfolio, additional projects are planned through 2026, including new wellness facilities at Silky Oaks Lodge in Queensland’s Daintree Rainforest and at The Louise in South Australia’s Barossa Valley. Tierra Patagonia is also expected to introduce new premium suites in the next phase of upgrades.

The portfolio currently spans a wide geographic range: Southern Ocean Lodge, Longitude 131°, Capella Lodge, Silky Oaks Lodge, and The Louise in Australia; Huka Lodge in New Zealand; Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge in Canada; and Tierra Atacama and Tierra Patagonia in Chile.

According to the company, future expansion will focus on adding additional lodges and experiences while maintaining a relatively small footprint at each property.
