Charleston’s Grand Bohemian has become Hotel Operis, Autograph Collection, pairing its new name with refreshed dining venues, redesigned public spaces and experiences that draw on the city’s arts and culinary traditions. The transition took effect Oct. 1 at the 50-room boutique hotel, which remains part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection.
Located in Charleston’s Historic District, the property takes its new name from the Latin opus, meaning “work,” with connections to opera and artistic creation. The identity draws inspiration from the hotel’s dramatic design and the surrounding cultural scene, including 11 theaters within walking distance.
“As Hotel Operis, we are building upon the legacy our guests know and love while introducing a refined identity that reflects the future of the property,” said Tony Liartis, general manager. “We will continue offering the independent character, personalized service, and memorable experiences that define our hotel, while introducing thoughtful enhancements that pique curiosity and celebrate the creativity and hospitality that make this property so special.”

Among the most notable changes is Arden Room Rooftop Bar & Dining, a refreshed fourth-floor restaurant and rooftop inspired by the Forest of Arden in Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Garden-influenced décor and new lounge seating frame views of Charleston’s historic skyline, while the menu brings Low Country ingredients into dishes such as crispy oyster sliders, crab bucatini, and grouper schnitzel. Cocktails carry the garden theme through drinks including the Salt & Sage Palomita and Arden’s Garden Martini.
On the main floor, the reimagined Café Lumen serves breakfast and lunch. Guests looking for a more participatory experience can craft a custom wine blend at the signature Wine Bar or take hands-on cocktail classes that explore mixology and Charleston’s cocktail history.
Art also plays a larger role in the refreshed public spaces. The lobby and gallery have been combined into a gathering area featuring a collection inspired by opera, theater, dance, music, and visual media. Throughout the property, new “Mirror Cues”—mirrors etched with theatrical quotes—extend the performance motif.
Further rooftop furnishings and décor enhancements are planned in the coming weeks, along with brunch service and additional partnerships with local artisans and organizations.
