Four Seasons will reenter the German market in late 2027, confirming plans to convert Berlin’s Hotel de Rome into a Four Seasons-managed property in partnership with Gruppo Statuto, bringing the company back to the capital roughly 20 years after its previous Berlin hotel closed.
The 19th-century building on Bebelplatz, originally the headquarters of Dresdner Bank, will undergo a full renovation before relaunching as Four Seasons Hotel Berlin. Humbert & Poyet will redesign approximately 140 guest rooms and suites, as well as all restaurants, bars, and public spaces. A rooftop venue overlooking Bebelplatz is planned, along with refreshed spa and fitness facilities in the former bank vault.
Hotel de Rome will continue operating through 2026 under Gruppo Statuto management, with phased work underway ahead of the transition. Some services may remain open during the renovation period.
Christian Poda has been appointed general manager. Born in Berlin, Poda joined Four Seasons in 1999 and most recently served as regional vice president and general manager at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, overseeing additional properties in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Suzhou. He will return to Berlin to lead the handover and opening.
The hotel’s location in Mitte places it within walking distance of St. Hedwig’s Cathedral, the State Opera on Unter den Linden, Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt, and Museum Island. Travel access includes a 15-minute drive to Berlin Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) and under an hour to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), with high-speed rail connections available to major German and Central European cities.
The Berlin project extends the longstanding partnership between Four Seasons and Gruppo Statuto. Their collaborations include Four Seasons Hotel Milano; San Domenico Palace, Taormina; and the upcoming Danieli, a Four Seasons Hotel, Venice.
Four Seasons currently operates 135 hotels and resorts in 47 countries, with more than 60 additional projects in planning or development. Recent European openings and conversions have focused on historic buildings in major urban centers, aligning with the Berlin project’s profile.
Four Seasons Hotel Berlin is slated to open in late 2027 following the completion of the renovation.
