Waikiki’s landmark Halekulani has introduced two new Premier Suites—the Bungalow and the Penthouse—bringing its top-tier suite inventory to five and reinforcing its position as one of Honolulu’s most iconic luxury properties.
Both suites come with Halekulani’s signature butler service, in-room check-in, SUV transfers, and daily breakfast, but each takes a distinct design approach that connects past and present.
The Bungalow, created by Champalimaud Design, is a tribute to Halekulani’s original early 1900s bungalows and the Arts and Crafts movement. With custom wood trellises wrapped in flowering Thunbergia and hand-blown sconces, it’s a quiet architectural homage nestled beside the hotel’s signature Orchid pool. Guests enjoy direct pool access, a private cabana, and a locally focused art collection featuring pieces by ceramicist Christopher Edwards.

The Penthouse, by contrast, leans into playful mid-century Hawaiian design, with vintage pieces sourced from Honolulu’s Hound & Quail, a curated vinyl library, and a private tiki bar with an on-call mixologist. A wraparound lanai has panoramic views and space to host small gatherings—ideal for milestone clients or discreet VIPs looking to entertain without ever leaving the suite.
While design is a draw, the hotel’s legacy also plays a role. Located on the former site of the Hau Tree Hotel and later renamed by locals as Halekulani, or “house befitting heaven,” the property has hosted travelers for more than a century. Its 130-year-old kiawe tree, now reclining beside the ocean after a 2016 fall, remains a symbol of resilience and continuity.
The suite additions expand Halekulani’s appeal for high-end multi-gen trips, celebratory stays, and cultural seekers who value a sense of place. Suite rates start at $5,000 per night, with limited availability during peak events and holiday periods.
