Hilton has added Cáceres, one of Spain’s best-preserved historic cities, to its Curio Collection portfolio with the debut of Palacio de Godoy Cáceres. The 73-room hotel occupies a 16th-century palace originally built for conquistador Francisco Godoy, opening after a 14 million euro restoration that aims to position the UNESCO World Heritage city more firmly on the upscale travel map.
Extremadura is a region less traveled than Madrid, Barcelona, or Seville, despite its deep cultural legacy. Cáceres’ old town, with its mix of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian influences, has long been a backdrop for historical films but has lacked a major international luxury flag. Palacio de Godoy delivers that presence, blending heritage with modern amenities: a spa, rooftop bar overlooking the city and countryside, and function spaces.

Dining is intended as a cultural statement as much as an amenity. The hotel’s Mamay Aldana restaurant, led by chef Antonio Manuel Céspedes Rodríguez, pays tribute to local traditions and maternal lineage, referencing both the property’s past use as a maternity home and Godoy’s mother, María de Aldana. The concept underscores kitchens as places of cultural fusion during Spain’s colonial era, positioning gastronomy as an interpretive layer of the property’s history.
Design has been handled with equal emphasis on context. BSV Arquitectos oversaw the architectural restoration, while landscape designer Álvaro de la Rosa drew inspiration from transatlantic ties, weaving native plants with American species in gardens fed by Cáceres’ natural rock springs. The result links Extremadura’s heritage with Peru’s colonial gardens, a subtle nod to Godoy’s role in the Americas.

The hotel is managed by Panoram Hotel Management, marking its first property in Extremadura, and represents a milestone for both the group and Hilton’s Curio Collection in Spain. Developer SCIPION Real Estate, which led the project, highlights it as a bridge between Extremadura’s heritage and new international tourism flows.
For Cáceres, where luxury accommodations have traditionally been limited, Palacio de Godoy is a catalyst for positioning the city as a higher-end destination in Spain’s secondary markets. With its layered history, thoughtful restoration, and Hilton’s distribution power, the property may bring a broader spotlight to a city long admired by historians and filmmakers—and now primed for luxury travelers.
