Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento Review: A Smart Pick for Food Lovers and Sea View Seekers
Advisors love Hotel Mediterraneo for its Michelin-starred dining, panoramic rooftop bar, and direct beach access. Here’s how to book it best.

Every local on the Amalfi Coast seemed to know about Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento the moment we mentioned it was our next stop. The property has been part of the region’s panorama for more than a century, and today—under the management of the fifth generation—it has evolved into a luxury five-star boutique hotel catering to the most discerning international travelers.
“Every year, we ask ourselves what we can improve,” says Francesco Monti, resident manager and a member of the family that has owned Hotel Mediterraneo since its founding in 1912. “We never stop thinking, improving, fine-tuning. We are obsessed with details, and we always want to hear from our guests: What can we do better? That is the key to staying ahead of the game and staying relevant in this market.”
Indeed, Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento earned its fifth star in 2021 and, just last year, was awarded one Michelin Key. This stunning property, perched above the Mediterranean Sea and only steps from the heart of Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast, has quickly become one of our favorites, too.
Here’s a look at the nearly perfect Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento:

Rooms & Suites
The hotel offers 61 rooms and suites, all decorated in a nautical theme that, in any other property, might feel overdone—but here, it works beautifully. The result is soothing, elegant, and perfectly inspired by the coastal surroundings.

Shades of blue blend harmoniously with copper and brass accents on the fishing-boat-lanterns and fixtures, creating a refined yet inviting ambiance. The bathrooms, though compact, are thoughtfully designed with custom-made tiles that make you feel unmistakably immersed in a beach resort that knows exactly what it’s doing.
The hotel has even recently developed its own luxury product line, Luce di Sorrento, featuring Mediterranean-inspired fragrances and locally sourced ingredients. These products are available both in the spa and in every guest room.

A detail we loved: 80% of the rooms feature balconies, with views ranging from the sparkling sea to the serene pool and gardens. Each room comes equipped with a coffee and tea station, a minibar, and a lounge or workspace. For families or groups, the property offers two two-bedroom family suites that can accommodate up to five guests across two levels—perfect for those seeking extra space and comfort.
Food & Drink
Foodies will be delighted. The food program at Hotel Mediterraneo is extensive, carefully curated, and genuinely exciting. The hotel takes pride in having hired a young and visionary food & beverage director, Alessia Fiorentino, who has brought a fresh perspective to the menus across all of the property’s dining venues: the pool bar, the rooftop, the fine-dining restaurant, and the casual eatery.
“Since we are in Italy, I wanted us to serve Italian food—but in different settings,” Monti tells Luxury Travel Report. “That is why guests can enjoy something relaxed and casual at the pool bar, tapas-style bites on the rooftop, and Italian classics on the terrace. Our Michelin-starred restaurant, Vesuvio, highlights local ingredients and wines, presented in a refined, elegant way that elevates the entire dining experience.”

Vista Sky Bar is the hotel’s newest addition, and since its opening to the public in 2020, it has become a gathering place for both residents and visitors, hosting numerous celebrations. The rooftop welcomes a DJ on select nights and serves tapas, platters, and appetizers, all accompanied by some of the Amalfi Coast’s most spectacular sunsets.
The hotel’s Michelin-starred Vesuvio offers an ever-evolving five-course tasting menu, which can be perfectly paired with local wines from Capri, Amalfi, and beyond. Just across the street, the Terrace serves Italian classics in a more relaxed, al fresco setting, while the pool bar is open daily with a selection of salads, sandwiches, and international favorites.

During our stay, every dish we tried was outstanding. The service was impeccable, and the quality of the ingredients was exceptional. No matter where we chose to dine, we could not go wrong.
Breakfast is served daily at Vesuvio restaurant and is complimentary. anood stations are available in an all-you-can-eat format, complemented with a short menu of items that are made to order. Room service is also available.
Amenities & Wellness
The hotel offers direct access to the beach club, located just below the property, via a built-in elevator that carries guests from the top of the hill straight down to sea level. While the beach club is not owned by the hotel (most beach clubs in Italy are not), hotel guests enjoy premium access. A reserved section awaits them, complete with privileged views, plush lounge chairs, umbrellas, and attentive all-day service.

For those who prefer the pool, the hotel has a charming pool area with lots of beds and cabanas, lemon trees, and plenty of shade. In the pool area, there is also a jacuzzi and a small gym, completed with an outdoor yoga studio where guests can practice four times a week, complimentary. There is also a pool bar that serves international cuisine and drinks daily.

A spa, located on the lower floor, offers a beautiful thermotherapy circuit completed with a cold plunge, a dry sauna, a steam room, and two treatment rooms. Guests can indulge in a massage, facial, body treatment, or reflexology. Couples treatments are also offered.

Location & Access
The hotel is just a five-minute drive from the Sant’Agnello train station. Guests can easily arrive by train from Naples Central Station, where the hotel’s private car service can arrange a convenient pickup.
Alternatively, a ferry runs from Naples to Sorrento four times a day, offering a scenic 45-minute journey across the bay. For those renting a car, the drive from Naples International Airport takes roughly one hour.
