Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula has a new draw for high-end travelers: Lamangata Luxury Surf Resort, an all-inclusive property that combines expert surf instruction, tailored wellness programming, and chef-driven cuisine in a secluded rainforest setting.
Now open and accepting bookings following its debut earlier this year, Lamangata sits 1,200 feet above sea level with sweeping views of the Pacific. The boutique resort is the vision of Debbie Gruelle, a luxury real estate veteran and daughter of Toll Brothers founder Bob Toll, who designed the resort with a focus on sustainability, privacy, and connection to the place.
With just six ocean-facing suites and shared spaces, including an infinity pool, yoga deck, and communal dining table, Lamangata was designed for intimate experiences, such as full buyouts for families, wellness retreats, and small celebrations. Suites feature teak floors, vaulted ceilings, private terraces, and king beds with organic linens.

The resort’s signature surf program welcomes all levels—from beginners to advanced surfers—and offers a low guest-to-coach ratio (as low as 1:1). Surf sessions are customized based on guest goals and local conditions, with access to breaks including Dominical, Playa Hermosa, and Playa Linda. Video and drone footage are used to provide feedback and track progress.
Wellness offerings include in-suite and open-air massages, daily yoga across multiple disciplines, and access to off-site experiences like herbal baths and IV therapy. Dining is also entirely personalized—no set menus or on-site restaurant. Instead, gourmet chefs prepare meals tailored to individual preferences and dietary needs, using local ingredients. The result is a flexible, elevated culinary experience designed around each guest.
Rates start at $7,630 per week based on double occupancy. Travel advisors earn a 10% commission, with higher rates available for preferred partners.
