Marriott Invests in Safari Camps Along the Great Migration Route
Autograph Collection to debut in Serengeti – plus, other upscale safari camp openings to look out for.

As upscale and luxury hotels push more into the adventure travel space, Marriott International is investing heavily in new safari camp developments in Africa. Most recently, the company announced it will debut its Autograph Collection brand in Serengeti, Tanzania.
Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection is slated to open in Q3 of 2025. The new comes after Marriott also revealed plans to open two other safari camps: The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp (expected to open this August) and JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp (expected to open in early 2026).
“Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations,” said Jerome Briet, chief development officer for Europe, Middle East & Africa at Marriott International. “The Serengeti’s scale, beauty, and cultural heritage will make an unforgettable setting for a property that will embody the individuality and character that Autograph Collection is known for.”
Like The Ritz Carlton safari camp opening soon, Mapito Safari Camp is located along the Great Migration route – near the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park and positioned between Central Serengeti and the western migration corridor. This means it will be directly in the path of vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope that pass through from May to July each year. The area is also surrounded by lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and giraffe year-round.
Mapito Safari Camp will feature 16 tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa. Each suite will have an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for open-air stargazing. The property will also offer a spa, fitness center, swimming pool and multiple eateries, including an outdoor communal dining space inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.
