Minor Hotels is pushing further into the Americas with plans for a new-build Anantara in Ushuaia, one of the world’s most remote and visually arresting destinations. The property, slated for early 2028, will be the brand’s first move into South America and brings its experience-led style to a region known for glacier-fed channels, rugged Andean peaks, and seasonality defined as much by expedition departures as by weather.
The resort will rise within the Costa Susana master plan, a waterfront development positioned between Tierra del Fuego National Park and the Beagle Channel. It’s an unusually ambitious project for the region: Costa Susana is Argentina’s first carbon-neutral real estate development and a current contender in the World Architecture Festival’s Landscape and Environment category. The hotel’s placement at sea level—paired with a spa and wellness complex designed around that vantage point—adds a rare hospitality component to a landscape that’s typically dominated by expedition ships and smaller-scale lodges.
The opening is also a sign of a bigger shift in traveler patterns toward Patagonia’s far south. Ushuaia continues to draw winter sports travelers to Cerro Castor, wildlife-minded guests heading toward Cape Horn, and those connecting to Antarctic sailings. A luxury resort with 60 keys, signature dining, and meeting space creates a new entry point for those who want the region’s drama without the rigors of an expedition itinerary.
Behind the development is Fideicomiso Urbanización Monte Susana, a partnership with deep residential experience in Tierra del Fuego. The group’s local footing should help Anantara calibrate its “luxury-with-purpose” positioning to an environment where sustainability isn’t a marketing line but a practical necessity. Minor’s leadership has been vocal about wanting to build in places where conservation and community impact meaningfully shape the guest experience, and Ushuaia’s fragile ecosystems make that approach essential.
Once open, Anantara Ushuaia Patagonia Resort will sit a short drive from the city’s international airport, which offers year-round connections to Buenos Aires and seasonal links to other gateways.
