Advisors love Monsieur Jean for its residential-style rooms with full kitchens, SLH affiliation, and prime Old Quebec address—here’s how to book it best.

As one of the oldest cities in Canada, Quebec City (the only fortified city in North America) hasn’t seen a new hotel in quite some time. But in 2019, a small boutique hotel opened in the heart of the Old Town. Slowly but surely, it began generating awareness. Word of mouth did its thing, and out of curiosity, we wanted to know who this “Monsieur Jean” was that everyone was talking about.
In a city known for its artifacts and visible signs of time, a design-forward, modern boutique hotel definitely stands out. And we were pleasantly surprised.

Why Travel Advisors Book It
- Its location on Saint-Jean Street in the heart of Old Quebec puts clients steps from the city’s top boutiques, restaurants, and historic landmarks.
- It is currently the only Small Luxury Hotels of the World property in Canada, giving advisors access to the brand’s trusted recognition and preferred-partner benefits.
- Generously sized rooms with fully equipped kitchens provide rare flexibility in this market, making the property especially appealing for longer stays, families, or clients who appreciate residential-style comfort without sacrificing design.
- Its bold, contemporary aesthetic offers a refreshing alternative to Quebec City’s more traditional, heritage-driven hotels—ideal for design-forward travelers who want to experience the Old Town without staying in a period-style property.
Rooms & Suites
Monsieur Jean is an intimate 78-room property, each room uniquely designed with rich textures and vibrant colors.
You can expect: velvet curtains, touches of cobalt, vibrant stripes, and bold lighting, and, in selected rooms, large balconies with fireplaces to enjoy the outdoors in every season. Compact, fully equipped kitchens are discreetly integrated to provide added functionality without compromising the room’s design. This feature is particularly useful for guests who want something quick or on the go, or simply need to store a few items in the fridge, just in case.

All rooms feature either a king-size bed or two queen beds, a full marble bathroom, thick terrycloth bathrobes, Bose Bluetooth speakers, and twice-daily housekeeping service.
Good to know: In keeping with the hotel’s playful spirit, every room hides a “treasure” for guests to discover during their stay. Those who find it can exchange it at the bar for a drink.

Food & Drink
The hotel features one on-site restaurant, Bijou, as well as a discreet cocktail lounge in the lobby.
Serving food throughout the day, guests can enjoy a small but efficient breakfast buffet from 7 to 11 a.m. daily, lunch, dinner, and cocktails.
The restaurant is elegant and luminous, overlooking the lively Saint-Jean Street, the city’s main commercial avenue. The menu offers a selection of shareable tapas—from oysters to caviar—alongside meat, fish, and vegetarian options.
On selected nights, guests can enjoy live jazz nights, complete with a band and a more romantic atmosphere.
The hotel also features a speakeasy-style bar, which guests will enjoy discovering in the eclectic lobby.

Amenities & Facilities
Since the hotel is boutique, it doesn’t offer an extensive list of amenities, but we especially appreciated the library located next to the front desk. There, guests can browse a wide collection of books, read in the lobby, or bring one back to their room. Board games and workstations are also available.
The lobby area also features a piano, a fireplace, and velvet couches—perfect for enjoying the view or simply staying cozy.
A small but efficient gym, open 24/7 on the lower level, allows guests to maintain their workout routine. It is equipped with Technogym’s latest equipment. Massages can be booked in advance, as the hotel offers a few on-site treatment rooms for added convenience.
Good to know: A self-serve s’mores kit is located near the exit, and guests can relax in Adirondack chairs on the front porch of the hotel while enjoying the fireplace—with or without s’mores.

Location & Access
Monsieur Jean is located in the heart of Old Quebec, on the main commercial street—arguably one of the best locations in the city. As this UNESCO World Heritage Site is full of cobblestone streets, it is recommended to leave your car with the valet.
The hotel is located approximately 25 minutes from Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport and just a few minutes from the VIA Rail train station.

How to Book Smart
The hotel is the only Canadian property member of SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World) and also a member of Hilton Honours. It can be booked via the GDS system.
