Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, has begun a full-scale renovation of its guestrooms and suites, with the phased project now underway and initial completions expected in late spring 2027.

The two-year effort will see all 345 guestrooms and 25 suites redesigned in what will be the most extensive update to the property’s accommodations in decades. The hotel will remain open throughout, with renovations carried out in stages; approximately 60% of rooms are currently in progress. Upon completion, the hotel’s total key count will be slightly reduced, with 10 rooms removed to create additional suite inventory.

The project follows the 2024 renovation of the hotel’s three-Michelin-star restaurant, La Pergola. Public areas, including the lobby and Tiepolo Lounge & Terrace, are also scheduled for updates following the room work.

New York-based Tihany Design is leading the redesign. The new scheme draws directly from Rome’s material palette, incorporating pale greens, terracotta tones, and travertine finishes, while retaining key architectural elements of the rooms. Bathrooms will preserve their original Carrara marble, which is being restored rather than replaced, along with upgraded fixtures and walk-in showers.

Guestrooms will also feature new custom furniture produced in Italy, including beds, seating, and wall treatments, all using regional fabrics and leather. In Imperial executive-level rooms, a new standalone bar cabinet will be added as a standard feature.

“Our goal was to honor the hotel’s extraordinary heritage while reimagining its spaces through a contemporary lens, enhancing comfort, elegance, and functionality,” said William Fisher, the hotel’s general manager. “Beyond the aesthetic transformation, this project elevates the way our guests experience hospitality, creating more intuitive and inspiring environments that support genuine, seamless, and personalised service.”

The hotel expects its first newly renovated rooms to be available next spring, with a portion potentially ready earlier in the festive season.
