Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef to Unveil $3.6 Million Luxury Transformation in 2027
The $5 million refurbishment will introduce redesigned accommodations, new guest spaces, and an enhanced culinary program.

Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef, the eco-luxury wilderness retreat on Western Australia’s Ningaloo Coast operated by Journey Beyond, will reopen in late March 2027 following a more than $3.6 million refurbishment that will introduce redesigned accommodations, new guest spaces and an enhanced culinary program.
Located among the dunes of Cape Range National Park, it is the only accommodation within the national park. The intimate property has just 16 wilderness tents and offers direct access to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef, one of the world’s largest fringing reefs.
As part of the renovation, all 16 wilderness tents will be redesigned with private ensuite bathrooms, louvered windows, custom textiles and new furnishings. Inspired by the surrounding marine environment, the interiors will feature a palette of blues and turquoise hues reflecting Ningaloo Reef. Natural materials, including teak and reclaimed jarrah, will be paired with woven rope details and refined metalwork, with materials selected to weather naturally in the coastal environment.
The transformation will extend beyond the tents, beginning with a redesigned reception area and continuing into the property’s central gathering spaces. A fully upgraded sundeck and lounge will serve as the lodge’s social heart, with new furniture designed to accommodate couples, solo travelers, and groups.
The culinary program is also being refreshed, with menus focused on contemporary dishes that incorporate seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and flavors inspired by Western Australia’s bush and coastline. The retreat will also introduce a new communal dining area with banquette-style seating and an all-inclusive open bar.
Meals will be accompanied by a selection of Western Australian wines, regional beers and other beverages, all included in the stay.
The location remains one of Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef’s biggest draws. Guests are steps from Ningaloo Reef and can join a rotating schedule of guided experiences during their stay. Activities include sunrise gorge walks through Cape Range National Park and guided snorkeling along the Ningaloo Coast, where the waters are home to more than 500 fish species and 250 types of coral.
Guests can also rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards to explore the coastline independently. Optional whale shark and humpback whale swimming experiences can be arranged for an additional charge, giving travelers the opportunity to encounter the marine animals in their natural habitat.
