The Hemingways Collection Refreshes River Camp Mara in Kenya
The intimate eight-tent safari camp in Kenya’s Mara North Conservancy has just unveiled a brand-new look.

The Hemingways Collection has completed a comprehensive interior refresh of River Camp Mara, its intimate eight-tent safari camp in Kenya’s Mara North Conservancy. Originally built by third-generation conservationist Richard Roberts and his wife, Liz, River Camp Mara is located within the Mara North Conservancy, part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem.
The refurbishment updates the guest accommodations, introduces new sustainability measures, and maintains the camp’s classic safari character. The redesigned interiors blend local craftsmanship with pieces sourced from farther afield, including bespoke textiles printed in Nairobi, custom furnishings by Mara artisans, woven Mandalay bedspreads and vintage rugs from Istanbul.
The camp has also introduced new solar water-heating infrastructure and upgraded its waste management systems as it works toward its first Ecotourism Kenya certification.

River Camp Mara comprises six luxury tents, one family suite and one private suite, maintaining a small-scale experience centered on privacy and access to the surrounding wilderness.
The camp operates within the Mara North Conservancy, whose conservation model involves more than 1,000 Maasai landowners. Land-lease agreements help protect wildlife migration corridors, generate revenue for participating landowners, and support local community development.
