The Luxury Collection has made its Singapore debut with the opening of The Laurus, a 183-suite property at Resorts World Sentosa. It is the first time Marriott’s heritage-driven brand has entered the city-state, expanding its portfolio to more than 120 properties worldwide.
Set within Sentosa’s integrated resort complex, The Laurus differentiates itself in a market dominated by marquee names such as Raffles, Capella, and Marina Bay Sands through heritage-rooted design and local detail. Interiors by Bangkok-based P49 Deesign blend colonial and tropical influences, with open verandas, orchid displays, and historically inspired flourishes. The Buffy Fish Owl, once native to Singapore’s mangroves, recurs as a symbolic motif, while botanical drawings from the William Farquhar Collection reinforce the link to place.

That sense of rootedness is echoed in the culinary and in-room programming. Partnerships with Singaporean artisans—including ETTE Tea, Notter Nuts, and Mr. Bucket Chocolaterie—extend the narrative into the suites, while the hotel’s signature Laurus Table will showcase regional flavors with a sustainability-minded approach. A chandelier of laurel leaves crafted by Czech design house Lasvit anchors the lobby, part of a collection of commissions meant to give the property a collector’s-home aesthetic.
The Laurus also underscores Resorts World Sentosa’s bid to sharpen its luxury credentials. Once best known for its family-oriented attractions, RWS has been investing in elevated hospitality products as part of a multi-billion-dollar redevelopment, with The Laurus positioned as a centerpiece. CEO Lee Shi Ruh described the hotel as “a sanctuary that feels like home,” and positioned it as part of Resorts World Sentosa’s wider investment in sustainable luxury.

On the sustainability front, The Laurus is on track for Singapore’s Green Mark Platinum certification, featuring systems to reduce energy consumption, refillable amenities, filtered water taps, and repurposed hardwoods from the Sentosa redevelopment, which have been crafted into bespoke objects by local artisans. The property has also partnered with ART:DIS to showcase works by artists with disabilities, including photography by Isabelle Lim and paintings by Natalie Holstad.
For Marriott, the launch fills a strategic gap: Singapore has long been a regional hub for luxury travel, yet had no property under The Luxury Collection banner. With competition intensifying in Sentosa and the city at large, The Laurus sets the brand up to capture both international demand and Singapore’s growing appetite for hotels that blend global polish with local identity.
