Thompson Hotels has opened its first property in Italy, bringing 69 rooms and suites, a rooftop bar and a substantial collection of Italian art to a restored 1940s building in central Rome.
Thompson Rome sits on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, steps from Piazza Venezia and within walking distance of the Roman Forum, Pantheon, and Colosseum. The Hyatt lifestyle brand’s newest hotel pairs that sightseeing-friendly address with interiors that preserve elements of the building’s past, including a sweeping marble staircase.
Italian artist Gio Pomodoro’s sculptural wall and inlaid floor, rediscovered during renovations after decades hidden from view, have also been preserved. Works by Francesco Del Drago, Giangaetano Patanè, and Guido Strazza appear throughout the public spaces and guestrooms, and a rotating artist-in-residence program will bring exhibitions, conversations, and other cultural events to the property.

“Rome has such a strong identity, so we wanted Thompson Rome to start with the city itself,” said Amar Lalvani, Hyatt’s chief creative officer and president and creative director of its lifestyle group. “The building, the neighborhood, the food, the people and the way Romans live all shaped the hotel.”
For clients seeking more space, the hotel has 19 suites, including options with patios or terraces. The top accommodation, the Thompson Suite, measures about 1,119 square feet and includes a private terrace of roughly 861 square feet. Select rooms have balconies overlooking Via delle Botteghe Oscure, while others offer private patios or views across the city’s rooftops and landmarks.

Dining centers on LYVE Restaurant, where executive chef Fabio Fioravanti serves a contemporary Mediterranean menu with an emphasis on seafood. An Ostia native, Fioravanti brings experience from the Alain Ducasse group and Le Louis XV at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. LYVE Rooftop serves cocktails, Italian aperitivi, and shareable dishes, while the lobby lounge offers coffee, light fare, and drinks throughout the day.
Planned guest programming includes culinary workshops, guided tastings, and “Empire of Light,” a photography-led experience offering views of Rome from the hotel’s seventh floor.
Thompson Rome is owned and operated by AG Group and Rossifin Group.
