TRUNK(HOTEL) is heading beyond Tokyo for the first time with plans to open TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO on Sept. 17, 2027. Located in the central Odori district, the 18-story property will be the Japanese boutique brand’s fourth—and largest—hotel.
The hotel will have 107 accommodations, including 18 suites and 89 standard rooms. Designed by Tokyo-based GENERAL DESIGN CO., LTD. and the brand’s in-house creative team, TRUNK Atelier, the interiors will blend elements of Hokkaido’s landscapes and craft traditions with what the company calls “Midcentury Folklore.” Rooms will feature warm wood, locally influenced details, and a contemporary interpretation of midcentury design.
A major addition for the brand will be TRUNK(BATH HOUSE), its first dedicated spa and bathing facility. Conceived around the idea of a “utopia of water,” the spa will occupy an entire floor and include a 40-meter waterway leading to 10 communal bathing spaces, each with distinct lighting, sound, and water temperatures. Separate men’s and women’s areas will offer large baths, saunas, cold plunges, and open-air relaxation spaces.

The culinary program will be led by the first Sapporo location of the Michelin-recognized Sushi Saito. The restaurant will pair traditional Tokyo sushi techniques with seafood and other ingredients sourced from Hokkaido. An all-day restaurant will also focus on the island’s seasonal produce, while a lounge and bar will host live piano and band performances. Its outdoor terrace will overlook the city, with transparent dining domes planned for Sapporo’s snowy winters.
TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO will have extensive private-event facilities spread across two floors. A Private Studio will combine a cinema, karaoke room, and flexible gathering space, while three banquet halls will offer features such as a private sushi counter, a dessert room, and a terrace with a pizza oven. A light-filled chapel with six-meter ceilings will provide an additional venue for weddings.
The opening expands a portfolio currently concentrated in Tokyo, where TRUNK(HOTEL) has developed a following for properties shaped around their individual neighborhoods. In Sapporo, that approach will encompass Hokkaido’s food, traditional bathing culture, natural environment, and pronounced seasonal changes.
