Anantara has opened its first safari property in Africa, bringing 13 suites and villas, riverfront dining and an extensive wellness offering to Zambia’s Kafue National Park. Three years in development, Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River pairs twice-daily game drives with private treatment rooms and elevated accommodations overlooking the river.

The off-grid camp runs on solar power, with on-site water purification and structures built around mature riverine trees. Most accommodations sit on timber platforms around 11 feet above the ground, designed to preserve wildlife corridors beneath the property.

Its standout accommodations are three 1,100-square-feet Horizon Terrace Suites, suspended 47 feet above ground and reached by glass elevator. Each has an upper deck with a star bed for outdoor sleepouts, plus a private terrace and space for massages on both levels. Nine 1,200-square-foot Pool and Bush Villas feature heated plunge pools and indoor massage rooms, while the 4,300-square-foot Presidential Villa adds exclusive boat access and a shaded entertaining deck.

Safari activities include twice-daily drives led by Zambian guides, river excursions, bush picnics, and catch-and-release fishing. The park’s ongoing restoration also informs the experience: African Parks has worked with Zambia’s government since 2022 to strengthen security, rebuild infrastructure, and improve fire management across the 9,000-square-mile reserve. Recent milestones include reintroducing the Kafue lechwe antelope in 2024 and translocating wildebeest and zebra in 2025.

Between excursions, guests can book in-room spa treatments, use steam showers, or exercise on a Technogym-equipped floating fitness platform, with an outdoor yoga deck facing the river.

Dining includes Luzuba Harvestry and Twalumba Bar & Lounge, alongside private experiences on a floating pontoon. Reached by boat and accommodating up to four guests, the platform hosts breakfasts, afternoon tea and sunset wine tastings close to the water.

Opening rates start at $6,289 per room, per night, based on two guests sharing a suite. The offer includes full board, premium beverages, twice-daily game drives, personalized butler service, and one 90-minute spa treatment per person, per stay.

For access, private charters are available from Lusaka or Livingstone to Chunga airstrip. Travelers can also arrange a private road transfer from Lusaka International Airport, approximately four hours from the camp.
